External Beam XRT
These are radiation rays or beams that are produced by a machine and directed to the area to be treated similar to how a routine chest x-ray is obtained. The energy of a therapy beam is much higher than that of a chest x-ray or CT scan and thus it can kill cancer cells. It is a localized form of treatment aimed directly to the area of the body where the cancer cells/tumor are found. Most commonly these machines produce photons or electron-type beams and your physician will choose which one is appropriate for you. These beams can be customized to be more specific to your particular situation in a variety of ways.
